Raleigh reports Adjutant General John Van B Metts denies North Carolina National Guard was equipped with tear or nausea gas. He says a 1934 textile strike led to a brief tear gas order, but the equipment was stored after the strike ended.
Vice President John N. Garner announced he will deliver his first campaign address within two weeks. The exact date will be set next week and the speech will be broadcast nationwide.

Hollywood report says Claudette Colbert suffered a head injury when her car was struck from behind. Dr. Joel Pressman had X rays ordered to assess the injury while chauffeur Conrad Menzer took her to care. Police later arrested J. L. Bryan on suspicion of drunk driving.
At Lumberton fair crowds gathered as county directors planned to raffle a white baby with adoption papers. State law bans drawing lots for a child, authorities intervened, and Cutlar Moore won the draw. The baby turned out to be a tiny white pig, drawing cheers and relief.
