London reports detail a German claim that Pietro Badoglio planned to kidnap Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. The alleged plot, said to come from captured documents, involved King Victor Emmanuel III and Badoglio delivering the leaders to the Allies. The plan was reportedly refused and hindered by the king.
Berlin broadcasts say British forces mounted a command style landing on Kalymnos between Cos and Leros to carry out large scale demolition. The attack is claimed to be a reconnaissance detachment with dynamite and explosives, and the Germans report recapture of Cos after prior occupancies on Leros and Cos.

Admiral Sir John H D Cunningham has succeeded his cousin as commander-in-chief of the Allied fleet in the Mediterranean effective October 15. He has led the Levant command since August and will report to General Dwight D Eisenhower. Sir Andrew Cunningham was named first sea lord earlier this month.
