Godwin Convicted of First Degree Murder Faces Death
James F. Godwin was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced by Judge Hubert E. Olive to die by lethal gas in the state prison on December 9. Harry Stillwell Edwards noted Georgia author and dean of Georgia letters died of bronchial pneumonia in a Macon hospital at age 83. He had entered the hospital with bronchitis on Tuesday and grew unconscious before death after a brief decline in health.
