Highway Law Violations Fallen Heavily in September
Mr. Harris reports that 65 people were killed in September with 23 pedestrians struck and 39 injured pedestrians. Drunken and reckless driving caused many fatalities and injuries, including seven intoxicated pedestrians and multiple hit and run deaths. Traffic on highways saw 12 killed in auto collisions and 10 at railroad crossings. The state highway patrol is deemed efficient but underfunded, needing a larger force to handle thousands of drivers.
