Baltimore, Nov. 20 AP Eight of 16 missing after a blast in the Norwegian tanker Mantilla during drydock work at Sparrows Point were confirmed dead. Of 35 crew, 12 died, four bodies unidentified, others thought to be shipyard workers. Amiel Petersen of Baltimore among the recovered. Rescue crews battled flames from gas ignition in a fuel tank.
Henry Stevens testifies on his birthday that he was at his Lavallette home far from the Mills murder scene on September 14 1922. He says he fished and dined with a neighbor and that witnesses overstated his movements. He notes his past work and employment with Remington Arms focusing on shotgun demonstrations.
W. D. Manley former president of Bankers' Trust company of Atlanta was found guilty in Fulton Superior court of the fraudlent failure of the Farmers and Traders Bank of Atlanta. Punishment fixed at nine to ten years in the state prison.
John Gill a 23 year old Black man was crushed between two freight cars on the Southern railroad tracks in front of the Myrtle Desk company. Witness James Memphill reported that the two cars were separated during shifting operations and Gill attempting to pass through the gap was seized when the cars came together. Gill, who had moved to High Point from Greenville South Carolina two years earlier, died instantly. Yow's ambulance arrived to transport him to a local hospital but he was already dead. Both Gill and his coworker were employed by the QO L Williams Veneer company.
A Lincoln sedan driven by George F. Wilson of the Wilson Motor company and an Overland coach collided about 9:30 last night at Main and Washington. Little damage occurred. the Overland had bent fenders and headlights while the Lincoln had a dented running board. A light change as the Lincoln started to cross was blamed for the crash.
The University of South Carolina and North Carolina State prepared for a 2:30 kickoff to close USC’s season. Both teams were in good shape as they took the field. The Wolfpack arrived late yesterday and spent the night on a Pullman car.

Harold Wheeler 30 barricades with his mother in a Kinstree house after wounding Sheriff Henry G. Gamble of Williamsburg county during a pursuit linked to alleged railroad wreck plots. Bloodhounds traced Wheeler after he fired a shotgun from close range and fled toward nearby woods.

Washington November 20 AP Henry Anderson an inmate at the soldiers home killed himself by climbing through a top shaft grate at the Washington Monument and leaping about 500 feet to the pavement below despite precautions to prevent such crisis reports.
