Defense Plant To Be Started

Ground breaking in Rolla North Carolina marks start of Turtle Mountain ordnance plant a $750000 project to supply jewel bearings essential to aircraft ships and artillery. Baby Kidnapper Loses Own Baby

In New York Mrs Carmen Rodriguez charged with kidnapping another woman's baby lost her own 19 day old daughter. The infant born Sept 28 had congenital abdominal adhesions and had been in hospital since birth. Rodriguez allegedly posed as Gloria Hernandez's mother and a nurse's aide released Hernandez's baby. The kidnapped infant was found in Rodriguez's care. the child died last night.

Byrd Declines Endorsement in Virginia Radio Address

Senator Harry F. Byrd, longtime Southern Democrat, says he cannot endorse the Stevenson Sparkman ticket or the party platform. He did not name a preferred candidate for the November election and urged Virginia voters to decide.
