Five Die in Erie Mystery Illness Case

In Erie Pennsylvania a mother Bertha Wolfe 22 and her four sons Merlin 5 Emmet 4 Daniel 3 and Douglas 18 months died apparently from a mysterious illness. Autopsies were ordered as investigators seek the cause after the family reportedly ate spaghetti and sauerkraut with relatives. The father Howard Wolfe a truck driver related the meal and the children fell ill after returning home. Neighbors recalled hearing the children at about 2 pm before the deaths were discovered.

Unmarried Women In America Greatly Outnumber The Men

The census bureau reports about 1 700 000 unmarried men ages 20 to 34 and 4 000 000 unmarried women in the same range, yielding a 425 thousandths per man ratio. A female majority exists overall with 600 000 more women over 21 than men, and marriage rates have fluctuated from 10.5 to 13.1 then 11.8 per thousand. The data suggest future brides may be younger, and that western small towns offer better chances for women seeking husbands as soon as servicemen return.
