House Appropriations Chairman Sees War Funds Need
The House appropriations chair told the Ways and Means Committee that the government must raise more to fight the war but he doubts a federal sales tax is the solution. He warned against expecting sharp reductions in military spending and said non essential spending should be trimmed. He neither endorsed the administration revenue plan nor supported a broad sales tax, and did not commit to a specific tax rate.
