A dozen fires raged across northern California fanned by hot winds leaving three dead and extensive property damage. The Post reports cabled advices that King Edward VIII intends to marry Mrs Wallis Warfield Simpson, despite her divorce suit from Ernest Simpson. E. Barnes a 55 year old cotton buyer for the Erwin Cotton mills of Cooleemee died at 3 a m in a Baltimore hospital. He had worked with the mills since organization. Survived by wife Mrs Barnes and several children. Body being returned to Cooleemee with burial plans not announced.

Swollen Streams Subside In Mountains No Deaths

Swollen streams in western North Carolina receded with no loss of life but caused disrupted communications washed out highways and crop damage. The French Broad crested at nine feet three inches above flood stage while the Yadkin rose steadily submerging valley crops and threatening Wilkes county corn.
