Six Seamen Lost Likely In Paris Besseggen Collision
Six Norwegian seamen probably perished when the Paris rammed the freighter Besseggen near the Statue of Liberty early today. Twenty four of the 30 aboard the Besseggen were rescued by ferries and tugs, while eight were saved by the Paris before it stood by and moved to quarantine. The Besseggen carried Cuban raw sugar and was moored off Liberty Island as the crash occurred in a busy shipping area.
