Chicago police superintendent James B. Conlisk Jr testified before a Senate subcommittee that Maj. Gen. Carl C. Turner urged him to destroy transfer records as federal investigators examined the matter. Turner, the Army’s former provost marshal general, denied personal use of confiscated weapons, while Conlisk asserted no admission of private use occurred in their conversations. Internal Revenue Service investigators later prompted discovery that the guns were not used for an Army museum.
