Rutgers dominates Colgate 48-6 in Hamilton New York. The Scarlet Knights overpower Colgate with a strong rushing attack and stout defense. This decisive victory boosts Rutgers' momentum in early season play.
The Marlowe Gun Club announces its skeet meet rescheduled from September 28 to 29. The event is authorized by the National Skeet Shooters Association and will be held after the meet at 7 p.m.
High Point College launches intramural football with Lambda Chi Alpha Sigma Phi Epsilon and Bulldozers leading the standings. Delta Sigma Phi shows a 1 0 mark as teams compete for top spots in the early season standings.
Newton Mass October 12 Don Allard overcame a flu to pass for two touchdowns and rush for another while setting up three more as Boston College defeated Dayton 41-14. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 200 yards and helped BC take the lead late in the first half.
Hampden-Sydney scores twice in the final seven minutes to beat Guilford 14 7 on Guilford College homecoming. Gene Cooke recovered a fumble, Willy Giglio scored from two yards, and Bob Farr connected on a 58 yard screen to Bill Benson for the early score.
In Laramie Wyoming unleashed its best rushing attack of the season to defeat Colorado State University 27 to 13 in a Skyline Conference clash. Larry Zowada missed much of the game but Harold Farmer scored on a 22 yard run and Gene Domrzalski finished a drive with a 4 yard TD. CSU briefly threatened on a fumble recovery and Wayne Schneider added a 30 yard scamper.
North Carolina State eyes a clean sweep over Florida State as UNC uses a Miami win to fuel confidence. Coach Jim Tatum starts sophomores Schuler and Coker at halfback and praises Schuler's potential.
Spencer, West Virginia junior star led the attack as the field general by default. With regular Mickey Trimarki sidelined by fever and others limited, Longfellow ran the offense, passed crisply, and mixed in plays to control the game for a strong 46 to 6 victory over BU.
Oklahoma State used its stronger line to beat Tulsa 28 13 before 20 000 in Stillwater. The Cowboys, overcome a 60 deficit in the second quarter, scored two fourth period touchdowns on interception returns. Tulsa’s defense intercepted five passes while OSU claimed three.
The teams have met four times with a 2-2 split. Miami opened 27 to 7 in 1939, NC State won 2-0 in 1942, NC State edged 28-7 in 1944, and Miami captured 21-7 in 1945.
