Contracts Awarded For Erection of Dam Across Deep River

The Grier Lowrance Construction Co. of Statesville won the dam project across Deep River with a bid around 332 800. Lynchburg Foundry Co. received the pipe supply contract, about 25 648, and W. B. Higgins Co. of Charlotte the pipe laying and related work at roughly 22 215.50. The total value nears 400 000. Sealed bids were opened, but awards awaited final bid evaluations and charter provisions.

Credit Men to Convene in Tri-City Meeting at Sheraton

Chest Officials Review Budget Shortfall in Community Chest

High Point officials checked budgets of organizations aided by the Community Chest, reporting $48,038.43 in total pledges paid and unpaid toward a $49,811.42 annual goal. About $5,000 in unpaid pledges remain, urged for immediate payment to support five beneficiary organizations. directors plan to meet next Friday to locate un solicited past contributors.

Uncle Joe Cannon dies at home in Danville Illinois

Danville Illinois November 18 1AP funeral rites for Benjamin Henry "Uncle Joe" Cannon elder statesman of the nation are planned after his return from public life. Tributes pour in with President Coolidge praising his leadership and influence. Cannon's career began in 1873 and spanned nearly five decades in Congress.

Hendersonville Fire Destroys Big Store in Business District

A basement blaze at the Brenner Penny Department Store on Main Street in Hendersonville caused total stock loss and heavy damage to two adjoining stores. Estimated total loss around 250000 with insurance partially covering Hunter Drug and Hunter Pharmacy damage. Firemen from Hendersonville and Asheville fought the fire through early morning hours. An investigation continues to pinpoint the fire’s exact origin.

Separate library rooms to be installed in schools

Elementary school principals and T Wingate Andrews discussed launching individual libraries in each school room with book lists and supplementary reading.
