Survey Indicates Demand For Meat Eggs Stacks Up

The first week of the voluntary food conservation program shows a drop in meat poultry and eggs sales in many cities. About half report a slump, while others see little change. declines range from slight to 50 percent in isolated cases. Causes cited include the meatless poultryless eggless days and high prices, with some saying early results are unclear. Prices for grain livestock coffee flour and lard rose in wholesale markets while eggs cocoa and butter fell. The Associated Press index of 33 commodities rose to 194.79 from 192.60 last Friday.

Economists Fear Lifting Credit Rules

Government economists fear that ending installment credit controls on November 1 will keep price levels high. The six year old rule requires a one third down payment and full payoff within 15 months on autos refrigerators and other appliances. Two Children Die In Sewer Excavation Cave In

In Wichita Kansas on October 11 a sewer excavation cave in in a new South base housing district buried two children at play. Gwen Copple ten and Lauren L Cooke eight were recovered about twenty minutes later and taken to a hospital where doctors failed to revive them. A twin sister alerted nearby residents leading to quick rescue attempts by workers Louis Stephens and Virgil P Mull.

Eisenhower for President Buttons Scarce in Draft League

Healy Dies at Army Illinois Football Game

Fred A. Healy 58 vice president of Curtis Publishing died at Yankee Stadium after collapsing while watching the Army Illinois game. A Bristol Illinois native and University of Illinois graduate, Healy was with his wife and daughter and Illinoians when he collapsed at 2 15 p.m. EST. a stadium doctor pronounced him dead. Healy had worked for Curtis since 1917 in Chicago Detroit and New York and was VP and director in 1930. His home was Philadelphia.
