President Coolidge states the United States will join the Permanent Court of International Justice only if the Senate's terms are met. He calls for conscription of capital and manpower in war time and dedicates the Liberty Memorial on Armistice Day while urging broader international cooperation.
Eight persons were injured, four seriously, when the automobile carrying them crashed into a moving freight train at a grade crossing in Louisville. Injured are Richard Westfall 47 with possible skull fracture Emma Torstrick 36 with possible internal injuries and bruises Chester Harlan 14 head laceration Margaret Torstrick 4 possible internal injuries and severe cuts Joe Hare 17 severely bruised Joseph Whitner shoulder wrenched and shock Mrs. Joseph Whitner bruises and possible internal injuries and the infant child of Mr and Mrs Whitner bruises.
A federal court grand jury in Wilmington, North Carolina, investigating the withdrawal of 20 whiskey cases from the U S custom house recessed to reconvene. Reports say indictments may have been returned against three persons and sealed indictments were turned over to District Attorney Irvin Tucker for review.
Louisville is the setting as Dr. Elliott Joslin tells the Ohio Valley Medical Association that a little diabetes can benefit an old man. He notes weight loss from the disease is often less dangerous than fat before middle age and that most late life diabetics are overweight. He adds hope remains as lifespans extend and deaths after fifty are falling.
In Louisville on Armistice Day a mess sergeant led a kitchen police detail including many generals and colonels to peel potatoes and open canned foods. Stephen Shirakis, Greek-born waiter and sergeant at arms of Jefferson post, directed the K P detail to dramatize rankless service in a 1917-18 army diet showcase.
The Enterprise reports Carrie McLean of Mecklenburg will be the only woman in the January session, the third woman elected to the state General Assembly. A conservative attorney born in Lincolnton in 1873, she has led a public career with roles in business, law, and civic groups.
Burlington November report covers North Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers three day session. Dr Charles Laughinghouse and colleagues lead a round table on child health linking home school and social factors. Parents are urged to participate, improve understanding of the child’s rights, and cooperate with schools.
Traders showed little inclination to buy as prices edged down at the open. United States Steel and General Motors held firm while Atchison, New York Central, Allied Chemical and other major issues opened with initial declines.

The Ladies Aid Society of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church opens its 24th annual flower show and bazaar with a large display of flowers and fancy works. Meals for 350 prepared. Rotary Father and Son day observed. luncheon for Kiwanis and chamber guests. prizes to be announced and published tomorrow. Proceeds fund church improvements including chimes and paving.
The High Point public library on the municipal building’s third floor opens today with 3 to 9 visiting hours. Woman’s Club will greet guests and register readers while Miss Marianne Martin serves as librarian with Miss Lucilla Pickens as assistant.
The Associated Press reports a cold snap grips the South with freezing readings from Kentucky to Florida. Temperatures hover near or below freezing, Bristol Virginia records 26 degrees with snow flurries, Louisville reports four below, while Florida tourists shiver in 50 to 65 degree air as wind sweeps the seaboard.
The High Point American Business Club subscribed 100 percent to the annual Red Cross roll call during a weekly supper at the Sheraton hotel. President Sam H. Denny presided as the new constitution and by-laws drafted by a committee were adopted. Short talks were given by Bill Guthrie Doc Richardson Ike Rountree and Marvin Wilson.
R H Sechrest of Sechrest Funeral Home is named to a National Funeral Directors Association committee on organization. The appointment was made by Colby E Smith, the group's president, and Sechrest is the sole North Carolinian named on the panel.
The executive committee of the Community Chest will meet tomorrow afternoon at 5 o'clock at the High Point chamber of commerce bureau. Full attendance is expected.
President and Mrs. Coolidge and an official party reached Kansas City on a special Washington train at 8 35 this morning for the dedication of the Liberty Memorial, Kansas City's monument to war heroes.
