West Berlin mayor Willy Brandt said Americans support the U S commitment to keeping West Berlin free. He spoke in New York during a visit and noted broad public backing for the U S stance on Berlin.
A free swinging fight broke out at Amsterdam's airport between Dutch police and Soviet embassy officials led by Ambassador Panteleimon Ponomarenko over the passport of a Soviet woman tourist. Officials were bundled from the police office, one with a bruise. Premier Jan de Quay summoned the ambassador to The Hague for a conference.
Organized labor leaders open a week long session in New York to decide whether to readmit Hoffa’s expelled Teamsters or form a rival truck drivers unit. AFL CIO may extend its four year ban amid corruption charges. Pro Hoffa and anti Hoffa factions push competing plans with leaders from the International Union of Electrical Workers and Communications Workers among those backing a new federation aligned Teamsters structure. Estimates place initial costs around one million dollars to launch a rival union within AFL CIO.
A Wyoming storm stranded 500 to 1,000 vehicles across southern Wyoming and northeast Utah as two feet of snow and 24 inch drifts paralyzed highways. McKinnon and Rawlins faced roadblocks while Lander and Rock Springs logged heavy snowfall and hotel shelters filled with motorists.

The Alamance County sheriff's office seized a copper whisky still kept as a display relic. Sheriff Joe Cole said the gleaming device had seen use and was found concealed in a gully in woods north of Mebane Saturday night during a search after investigators uncovered a whisky operation in the area.

The Supreme Court refused to hear Mellett Faust, a Negro condemned to death in North Carolina for killing Charlotte policeman John R. Annas during a May 21 1960 shooting after a knife fight between two Negro cousins. Faust argued lack of premeditation in the murder.
The U S Supreme Court refused to review a Kansas Supreme Court decision upholding a 1958 right to work amendment that bars agency shop agreements. The case involved Cardinal Manufacturing Co and questioned whether unions may demand dues from nonmembers.
A fire of undetermined origin razed the Roberts Co machinery plant in Sanford North Carolina before dawn. The main factory, described as the master plant, housed 200 workers and caused potential layoffs at six other Roberts plants while insurance covered the losses.
Sam Rayburn, battling cancer, rests comfortably and reports no pain as he receives experimental drug injections at Baylor. Dr. Ralph Tompsett says Rayburn slept well and is awake during breakfast with no condition changes. The treatment uses t-Fluorouracil and may continue for about two weeks pending side effect checks.
