Ford hints at smaller car beyond Falcon

Detroit AP reports Ford Motor Co quietly prepares a smaller car possibly Volks wagen size with front wheel drive. UAW urges domestic production, tooling partly in Germany, with test marketing in Canada before U S launch planned for late 1961 or early 1962. Chevrolet also shows small car interest as GM, Ford and Chrysler vie for the compact market.

Black Widow Weaves Web For Surveyors

In Austin Texas the State Highway Department uses black widow silk for cross hairs in surveying instruments. The spider produces web spun into 50 foot lengths bought for 15 dollars. Instrument repairmen say the silk is stronger and more flexible than platinum wire and easier to clean enabling precise measurements at Camp Hubbard.
