Furniture Association plans major upgrades and library
The Southern Retail Furniture Association outlines renovations to its offices after the fall market. A model furniture display will occupy the main floor, with basement expansion for a classroom and a full reference library on furniture production, design, and use. The library will be the only one of its kind in the South. New North State Telephone directory appears December 28 with corrections due by November 15. To accommodate system expansion, all numbers starting with 93 and 94 will be changed.

Textile Imports From Japan Turn U.S. Mills Toward Crisis
Washington reports from U.S. and Japanese officials show American textile mills facing a severe crisis due to a Japanese surge in fabric and ready made apparel. August Japanese fabric sales to U.S. buyers reached 52 million yards, far exceeding all of last year’s 47.8 million yards. July 1955 cotton cloth imports from Japan stood at 44 million yards, with total yearly shipments rising from $32,605 in 1952 to $5,321,977 in the first seven months of 1955. Industry leaders warn of a two pronged invasion: rising fabric shipments and a booming apparel import market threatening workers and farms.
