Model Farm Influence Spurred Agricultural Progress in North Carolina
John J. Blair describes the Baltimore Friends Society effort to establish a model farm near the old spring, showcasing William A. Sampson's scientific methods and new equipment. The project drew over 1,000 visitors statewide, aided emigration decline, and prompted extensive relief spending by Friends institutions totaling about 138,300 dollars. A bronze tablet at Springfield Friends church memorializes King, Moore, and Gow for their roles in this relief and educational advance.

Model Farm and Baltimore Link Spur High Point Growth
Frances T King surveyed postwar aid to relocate families westward and favored new beginnings near High Point with a 200 acre tract known as the Model Farm. Land passed through multiple owners as Petty Hammonds built depots and farms, aided by Baltimore donors and the Clodfelter family. The farm stocked with Alderney and Jersey cattle, Berkshire and Poland China hogs, and Southdown sheep, emphasized soil-building with clover and cover crops. In 1869 King praised rapid progress and a robust agricultural community, including 17 clubs with 1500 members and a self supplying department. The superintendent noted 10 000 acres cultivated with clover by 1871.
