Advisory Group Says Arkansas Schools Remain Separate
The Arkansas Advisory Committee on the Civil Rights Commission says since 1957 public schools in Arkansas remain separate and unequal. It notes 26 percent of students are Black, but only 0.2 percent of Black children attended mixed schools in 1963, while Whites get higher accreditation and better facilities. The report cites rising costs of segregation, debt from desegregation battles, and Arkansas’s low per capita income.
