Migrant Workers Follow Harvest To The North
Migrant workers travel from South Texas in a beat up $350 truck led by Alex Torres to Michigan cherry fields after a hard journey through Arkansas and Indiana. The crew sleeps in camps near Mount Summit and Tompkins Orchard, with hopes of paydays, rough conditions, and a glimpse of a better life as they endure heat, flies, and sparse facilities. The piece blends portraits of Torres and fellow workers, camp life, and a snapshot of migrant labor demographics and wages.
