Discrimination Not Only Reason For Job Problems
UNC Chapel Hill economist Dr. Solomon W. Polachek argues that women face lower paid and lower level jobs even without hiring discrimination. He cites part time work patterns, child care gaps, and skill depreciation as key factors shaping occupation choice and real wages. He suggests more day care could boost women in professional and managerial roles and notes discrimination may exist but is not the sole cause.
