The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized the Atlantic and Yadkin Railroad to abandon a 11 mile branch between Stokesdale and Madison in Guilford and Rockingham counties North Carolina.

In Bellingham Washington police and juvenile authorities report a seven year old boy nicknamed tiger accused of attempting to kill a baby with an iron bar. The boy’s name is withheld as a juvenile. In Paris on October 5, clashes between Socialist government forces and Fascist groups escalated after Communists rallied at Parc des Princes. Police mobilized 12,000 officers to quell violence as urban fighting and property damage spread through surrounding cafes and shops. About 1,500 people were briefly jailed as authorities restored order.

Monroe Georgia October 5 Police Chief T E Dorsey said three men detained after a Friday shooting in a car will face burglary charges in Dekalb county. Night Officer L W Howard was wounded before he killed a man identified as Perry Otto Akins 21 of Woodruff South Carolina. Howard remains in serious condition at Walton County hospital awaiting update on his injuries.
In Windsor North Carolina a six hour siege ends when Dennie Thrower, 30, fires from a burning shack and is killed by officers. Fifteen possemen were wounded but survived as the crowd watched youth J C Johnston ignite the shanty fire and Thrower opened fire.
Nazi controlled police guarded 74 political foes after a raid on opposition party meetings in Danzig. The arrests followed a conference of leaders opposing Nazi influence in the Free City, a League of Nations protectorate.
