A Sun Oil refinery unit in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, exploded after a packing gland failure released gas. New York dispatch reports truck drivers on a month long strike widening protests to New England and Mid Atlantic cities. John E Strong, president of a striking International Brotherhood of Teamsters local, says drivers are getting pledges to keep non settled firms’ trucks off the road. Strong explains hot freight as material normally handled by the union being rerouted from New York to New Jersey terminals and rebilled for trucking locally.
In Paris on October 1 the Soviet Union and allies charged that the United States and Britain breached the big four agreement by backing an Australian amendment to create an international supervisory body for reparations payments to Italy.
