Steel Coil Crushes Car Killing Five in Ohio
An overturned coil of sheet steel crushed a car and its five occupants on Ohio 7 near East Liverpool. The truck driver Vernon Hatcher said the load shifted as he descended a grade, causing coils to break loose and bury the car. Killed were Judith Lewis 19 Sally May 17 Theodore Knight 12 Louis Slagle 15 and Lila White 58 plus two more in a second crash William White 33 and his son William White 64. The younger White was hospitalized in critical condition.

A gunman took 62 200 from the M Street Northwest First National Bank of Washington before it opened. He fled in morning traffic, possibly with an accomplice. Police described a white man 5 8 185 pounds in a Swiss Alpine hat and light tan trench coat.
