Australians Capture Finschhafen After Fierce Jungle Assault

Allied forces announce the Australian ninth division captured the air and sea base at Finschhafen in Northeast New Guinea at 11 am Saturday after a two-pronged attack with American air support. German Planes Test New Tactics Against American Bombers

Capetown reports official confirmation of the sinking of the British liner Ceramic with more than 500 people aboard last November. The vessel, en route from England to Capetown, likely fell to a submarine in heavy seas with no confirmed survivors. The passenger list included many South African and Australian families.

Nazis Offered Armistice To Reds Last June

Court Martial Trials of Kimmel and Short Postponed
