Girl Smuggling Guns Stages Hostage Stand at Reformatory
Two federal youth inmates at the Federal Youth Center near Denver, aided by a visiting girl, held three people hostage for 10 hours before surrendering. The woman smuggled three pistols past lax visitor checks, aided by a getaway car rented by Berry Mossman. Inmates Alfred Rollins and Henry Cassidy were contained with a guard, an inmate, and Cassidy’s mother on the floor. Negotiations led by Warden Tim Keohane and counselor Paul Ortiz prevented harm. Nancy Ann Shupe, Cassidy’s Denver girlfriend, supplied the weapons. Mossman provided the car.

The panel urged preserving close ties with public schools and opposed four year expansion. The group noted the long linked growth of community colleges with public education while stressing continued interdependence.
