Textile strike ends as Lumber River Mill resumes without union
Lumber River Cotton Mills in Lumberton resumes full shift operation without a current contract or TWUA union representation after a 20 year period, despite a 1954 13 week stoppage and a 1950s union drive. The plant, part of Calvine Mills, faced resignations since January and a failed NLRB election petition. Notably, TWUA accused management of coercion and a Senate probe was sought, though no inquiry occurred.
