Negro students and Klansmen demonstrated simultaneously in Atlanta in front of Rich's department store over lunch counter segregation. Klansmen paraded for three hours with no arrests as Negro pickets urged freedom and boycotts. Rich's reported sales near last year’s after Thanksgiving figure.
The Louisiana Legislature debates blocking Kennedy electors over school integration aims. Some senators push a resolution to refuse any candidate not backing states rights on schools, while others warn of court battles if electors defy the majority vote. Governor Davis remains silent amid talk of a coalition with segregationists and education chief Shelby Jackson. Kennedy won Louisiana by about 176000 votes. unpledged electors finished third.
Oscar Pino Santos presented credentials to Vice President Soong Ching ling in Shanghai marking Cuba as the first Latin American envoy to Communist China.
