Mrs. Snider reports a warm three week spell has produced a second growth of tomatoes in her garden. She notes big red tomatoes and a plentiful crop almost as productive as summer with many still ripening despite Thanksgiving.
Funeral services for Joseph M. Spencer a 77 year old farmer of Trinity route 1 who died at his home after months of illness were held at Poplar Ridge Friends church. Rev Tom Stamey and Rev E W Jones officiated with interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Emory Peace Everett Peace Car Hill Alvin Hill Elwood Spencer and Joe Hill. Flowers were carried by Ruth Hill Bessie Hill Florents Hill Ruth Spencer and Eula Spencer. A large crowd attended the rites to pay respects and floral tributes were left.
Miss Celia Jacobson of Portsmouth Virginia spends the weekend with Miss Betty Bloom at 212 Montlieu Avenue.
Delegates at the 73rd annual North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church met at St. Mark colored church for Education Night. Dr. W. C. Jackson and President David D. Jones spoke, with music by the Bennett College glee club and a reading by Miss Madie Ruth Gamble.
Miss Hazel Sebastian underwent an appendicitis operation at the Burrus Clinic this morning and is reported to be recovering satisfactorily.

Thieves broke into West End Hardware early Thursday, stealing 15 firearms and ammunition. Entrance via a broken front show window. discovery at 2 40 a m. Police issued a detailed bulletin and a $25 reward offered by the company for information and recovery. An automatic corn picker and husker is noted in a midwestern corn field report.
Herman H Stroud aged 18 died at 11 45 am Thursday after a three week illness at 517 Walnut Street. He was born in High Point July 28 1917 the son of R A and Edna Owens Stroud. Survived by parents one brother Ernest and three sisters Mrs J L Martin Miss Bernice Stroud Miss Mildred Stroud and grandmother Mrs Sallie Owens. He was a fifth grade pupil at Emma Blair school. A brief home service will be held Saturday at 10 am conducted by Rev Geo T Tunstall after which the funeral procession goes to Society Baptist Church Iredell County for services at 1 pm and interment in the church cemetery.
