Old couple build own home after seven years of labor
In Raleigh on November 27 a retired school janitor Alfred E. Jones and his wife completed a self built home begun ten years earlier. Over seven years they planned and constructed the house with help from Mrs. Jones, who joked about her own building skills. The couple worked after his school day ended and on holidays, with John Mangum approving the electrical and plumbing work as safe. The four room first floor and four rooms upstairs plus attic were finished and a garden planted before moving in.
