Prison Inspector Finds No Sweat Boxes in State Camps
Inspector L G Whitley reported to R E Brown that no detention cells in Mecklenburg or Wake counties or State Highway Commission camps meet the definition of sweat boxes. He said the highway prison department is moving away from torture prone methods and the so called box in Mecklenburg was merely an iron cage once used for 18 prisoners, now with a single inmate and basic bedding.
