Citizens urged for fair city parking at Hamilton and Commerce

A reader asks where citizens can park for city business as back lots and one side of the City county building favor employees. The city says the offstreet lot on Hamilton and Commerce, north of the building, offers first come first served public parking with a 15 cent first hour and 10 cents per additional hour up to all day for a 1.00 rate. The lot operates 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. City employee parking occurs on the south side and in city vehicles.

India Allows Troop Crossings Into Pakistan in Self Defense

The Associated Press reports India says troops have orders to cross the border into Pakistan in self defense and that such actions have occurred. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi addressed Parliament noting East Pakistan rebels hold territory and heavy fighting with Pakistani forces continues near Bogra and Jessore, with India claiming aerial and ground clashes and Pakistan reporting Indian losses.

Miracle needed to remove paint without varnish loss

If paint spills on furniture you could rub gently with fine steel wool or scrape lightly with a non scratching scraper or dull knife. Chemical paint removers would strip the varnish along with the paint, so they are not recommended.

Stein Named Acting Chief Of Economic Advisers

Washington AP The White House selected Dr. Herbert Stein to replace Dr. Paul W. McCracken as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. Stein, 55, helped draft Phase 2 wage price stabilization measures and has long favored limited federal intervention in markets. McCracken will resign to return to professor role at the University of Michigan.

Baptists Reject Immersion Rule At NC Meeting

At the North Carolina Baptist Convention in Charlotte a proposal to limit messengers to those from churches practicing immersion baptism failed.
