Injuries from an Albemarle highway automobile crash proved fatal for Douglas Allen of Graham. The 22 year old died at Randolph hospital after a fractured skull suffered while returning from a football game in Albemarle last night.
Thomasville strikers approve contract ending the UFWA Local No. 286 walkout at the Omasville Chair company. The agreement includes ten cent or fifteen percent hourly increases, a voluntary check-off, and anti initiation provisions. Return to work expected across plants as inventories and repairs finish.

The North Carolina Association of Automobile Dealers will urge the General Assembly to revoke all 1,477,761 state drivers licenses and reissue them on a fee basis after exam. President Paul L. Abernethy of Charlotte said nearly all licenses have been issued without examination.

Two members of a U S ground rescue squad reached the crashed C53 in the Swiss Alps as Brig Gen Ralph Snavely directs operations. The airliner with 11 aboard had crash landed Tuesday in a glacial bow about 8 000 feet above sea level near Meiringen Switzerland.
Hundreds of thousands of cut diamonds, possibly the era’s largest private and national store, were uncovered in Japan by American occupation authorities. Officials say the gem reserve, valued at 20 to 25 million dollars, was gathered to fund postwar needs and may be far more valuable at wholesale market prices. U S army headquarters in Frankfurt reported all 11 survivors after a four day ordeal near Strahlegg peak 13 miles southeast of Interlaken and near Jungfrau. Peoria Illinois November 23 A veteran animal trainer Dick Clemens faced nine lions and two tigers in a five minute free for all. The trainer, armed only with a chair and a stick, survived uninjured while two lions died in the chaotic brawl.
About 300 German scientists and technicians were brought to the United States under a voluntary plan offering citizenship after six months. Raleigh Nov 23 The North Carolina education association board of directors endorsed the legislative committee path to a 20 percent teachers pay raise in the next General Assembly. A four point program includes a minimum 20 percent rise for all school personnel and a reserve for salary payments from state surplus for the coming biennium.
