Birmingham reports 84 dead and 60 injured from the No 3 coal mine explosion of the Woodward Iron company. Officials say 55 left for home. investigations continue with many unaccounted, including white workers, as crews search the wrecked mine.
L. S. Ford, a local photographer, found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Judge Walter Roy al sentenced him to three months on the county roads. Ford gave notice of appeal to Guilford superior court with bond set at $200.
Special to the Enterprise from Raleigh reports Governor Morrison and J. W. Bailey clash over Watts on the state revenue commission. The Supreme Court hears the cotton mills case against the corporation commission, challenging interstate versus state regulation. Rumors of a 1925 speakership loom as Forsyth and Mecklenburg vie for leadership.
Birmingham reports renewed removal of the dead from Dotomite Mine No 3 after an explosion trapped 475 workers. Officials estimate 83 dead and 60 injured with many fatalities tied to a derailment crash and a snapped electric cable that sparked the dust explosion. White workers predominated among the dead. black miners represent about 80 percent of the injured. Families watched through the night as crews and undertakers aided by helpers pressed to account for the missing.

High Point residents learn with regret of the death of Jake Rones a well known local figure who died Friday in New York City. The burial was Sunday at 1 30 p m He owned the New York Bakery for over a decade before selling it and moving to New York City after years of ill health his passing came as a shock to friends in High Point He was known as a congenial affable man.
W J Church of South Main street reports a tree in his yard yielded a second growth of pears this year. Some fruit was brought to The Enterprise office and the pears are nearly perfect. It is unusual for a tree to produce a second growth of fruit in this section.
A small fire at D. A. Fowler's Park Street store caused about 50 dollars in damage. The blaze was reported around 1 PM via box 47 and extinguished quickly by the South Side Fire Company.
President Harding nominates Pierce Butler of St Paul Minnesota to the United States Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Associate Justice Day.
Winchester Virginia reports one hundred men mobilized to fight fires on the eastern slopes of Great Northern mountain. The blazes threaten valuable timber tracts and are gaining headway, endangering nearby farms and properties.

The North Carolina highway commission will contract 860 to 1,000 miles of road next year at an estimated 16 to 20 million dollars, following a 2,000 mile program in 1921. Over half is already hard surface with 66 miles paved this month, as progress types guide grading, surface, and hard road construction.
An afternoon collision on West Broad Street around 1 oclock involved a Ford coupe driven by J W Johnson and an Oakland touring car driven by Mr Clodfelter. Both drivers escaped injury.
