Pears Grow Inside Swiss Brandy Bottles
In Valais Switzerland a pear brandy is produced by growing pears inside glass bottles. From May to August 40 000 bottles hang upside down with branches inserted through narrow necks during a three day window. After harvest in August 15 000 meet quality, pears soak in alcohol for three months, then cups are rinsed and filled with brandy. Rejected bottles are reused after fruit deterioration.
