Ohio State sociologist Nancy Moore Clatworthy reports a 1975 study of 100 couples showing those who lived together before marriage had more problems and higher divorce rates than those who did not. The survey, with ages 18 to 35, included 65 percent who cohabited before marrying and averaged two and a half years together.
