Renewal Of Old Feud Between Railroads And Truck Is Seen In Recent ODT Mileage Order

Miss Frances Johnson of the North Carolina Truck Owners Association says a proposed ODT rule limiting motor trucks to 250 miles echoes a long running battle with railroads. Ted V. Rogers of American Trucking Associations supports conservation but notes railroads should propose for their branch too. The plan also singles out coal shipments and exempts Army and other military loads, a provision truckers deem narrow. Both sides have worked to move essential wartime freight and foresee postwar advantages, leaving the Office of Defense Transportation to oversee fair limits.
