MAEBASHI Japan GI William S Girard was convicted of killing a woman scrap collector to satisfy a momentary caprice. A three judge court sentenced him to three years in prison suspended for three years with probation for a fourth year. He plans to leave Japan if neither side appeals within 14 days.
Secretary of State Dulles said the United States is studying forming several stockpiles of atomic weapons in Europe to complement a network of intermediate range missile bases. He noted IRBMs may be ready by year end and mentioned nuclear warheads in Canada backing early warning radar systems.
Edward Gein, 51, confessed to opening graves to collect heads and killing neighbor Mrs. Bernice Worden. He heads to Madison for a polygraph test while held on $10,000 bond for armed robbery.
