Washington AP reports the Supreme Court will consolidate four cases challenging the abrogation of gold clauses in contracts. The move aims to speed a decision on legislation affecting up to 100 billion dollars. The hearings are set for January 8.
President Roosevelt in Warm Springs and Tupelo declares the New Deal permanent with cheaper power and cooperation from obstructionists. He forecasts national adoption of municipal power and says the country is coming back. Mrs. Roosevelt joins him as they plan a two week stay at the White House cottage.
Ralph Dill and Luther Osborne were sentenced to death by electric chair after being found guilty of first degree murder in the Davis murder case. Reuben Warner received 25 to 30 years. Paul Sams and Robert Smith were acquitted. Appeals filed by Dill and Osborne.
North Carolinians cast about 2,509 votes in the November 6 general election, per unofficial statewide tabulations by the state board of elections. The totals reflect the early unofficial counts released at Raleigh on November 10.
Ambassador Tsuneo Matsudaira stated for Japan that the British compromise proposal on the naval treaty was rejected. He conveyed the decision during diplomatic talks held in Stondon on November 19.
Gov J C Ehringhaus of North Carolina will speak at the first fall meeting of the North Carolina society in Washington tonight before about 1000 attendees. A southern coastal area forecast shows a warm trend for Tuesday with mostly overcast skies. Winds along Sandy Hook to Hatteras will be fresh southwest or west in the north and west, lighter to the south with variable to easterly directions. Fair weather is expected tonight and Tuesday with modest wind.
A weekend toll in the Carolinas rose to fifteen deaths from violence and accidents. Victims included Grady Tate and Fay Hunt of Rutherford County, and Miss Texe Smith near Charlotte. Other fatalities stemmed from highway crashes, fires, suicides, and an explosion in Newberry that killed three men and damaged property.
Banks in the south report larger Christmas savings club accounts this year with higher totals and more members. Virginia leads the South Atlantic, with about $7 million to be distributed in the Old Dominion and Richmond’s $1 million for 33 000 club members. New Orleans banks total $345,000, Memphis deposits rise by $45,000 to $320,000 for 7,900 depositors, Nashville $253,600 for 7,973, Jacksonville $275,000 to $300,000, Charlotte $170,000, and Savannah and Columbia also report sizable sums as signs of improved business.
In Clifton Forge Virginia two young sisters aged 13 and 9 were found dead with fractured skulls after being missing since Sunday. Three men and a fourth suspect were detained as investigators pursue leads and potential confessions in this Roanoke area case.
Former U S Senator Edwin Broussard of Louisiana dies at his home after a sudden illness at 59. A World War veteran, he served in Manila with the Taft commission and was Tulane Law School president in 1901. Broussard won Senate seat in 1920 and 1926 and later faced Overton in 1932 amid Huey Long era politics.
Four year old Jackie Gibbons was recovered in Lexington Kentucky by Detective Sergeant Claude Embry after being abducted to Chattanooga Tennessee by hitchhiker Bernice Givens. The boy raced to his father John Lawrence Gibbons and cried out in relief as his mother embraced him.
The National Whirligig notes the American Liberty League plans to wait for Roosevelt's 1935 program release before action. It says the group, linked to Jowett Shouse Al Smith John W Davis and others, will oppose the New Deal as it shifts left and will back conservative aims when aligned with 1932 Dem platform.

J. O. House of the local police force was cut while trying to eject an allegedly drunken man from the Labor Union hall on ordy night. House went to quell a disturbance and sustained a full slash after a struggle. The troublemaker’s name was learned.

He argues public power can lower costs, while critics say coal remains cheaper. National Association of Manufacturers calls for a Congress on American Industry in York December 5 and 6 to seek industry cooperation.
