Wall Street faced renewed anxiety over energy issues with the Dow Jones average losing more than 117 points over two weeks and erasing September gains. Analysts blamed the slide on concerns about energy restrictions and their impact on the U.S. economy, though a small Thursday gain offered little comfort.
USDA estimates indicate farm wheat could average 3.50 to 4.00 per bushel for the 1973 74 season doubling 1972. This would surpass the 1947 48 high of 2.29 and comes despite prices easing from late summer peaks.
President Grover H. Cole announced Life of Carolina shows strong 1973 results with premium income at 3 619 480 up 11 percent from 3 246 791 a year earlier. Investment income rose 21 percent to 186 084 from 153 349 and life in force reached 156 807 741, up 10 percent from 142 105 966. Admitted assets climbed to 5 241 577, up nearly 12 percent. The third quarter loss from operations was 15 863 versus 53 909 a year ago.

Markets fell sharply early in the week as analysts warned on the energy sector’s impact on the economy. Prices rebounded Friday after President Nixon spoke optimistically about a rise in Arab oil exports to the West. Dow Jones dropped 17.08 to 891.33, AP index down 7.3 to 287.5.
