In Pittsburgh on November 16 the UE split battle intensified as new court tests and two NLRB appeals emerged. The International Union of Electrical Workers seeks bargaining elections at major manufacturers, challenging the UK left wing and its secession stance. Right wing petitions claim about 200,000 workers.
Six children were injured in a Johnston county school bus accident on a washed out road when a spring broke and the bus veered off a dirt road. Three children were hospitalized and the crash led to examinations for carbon monoxide exposure.
Snow depths reached nine inches in Pellston Michigan and seven in Marquette with flurries elsewhere. Cold, clear conditions prevailed in much of the nation as winds up to 35 mph whipped dust near Minot North Dakota, with forecasts predicting more snow and winds moving south into Illinois by late afternoon.
The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City was sold to Edwin C Moss Williams of Washington, N. C. He becomes president and publisher, former VP of the United Press Association. Herbert Peele, founder and long-time editor, remains with the paper as secretary of the corporation.

Nine year old Eric Weill told his mother the sitter and her father abused him after he locked the sitter out. He showed a blood smeared bedsheet and a loose tooth he pulled himself. Officer Dunham found no mistreatment by the boy. the sitter Donna Giancoli and her father Charles Giancoli were reported in the incident. The U.S. protested a Chinese warship firing on an American merchant vessel.
The North Carolina Press Association moves toward a journalism foundation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a $100,000 endowment goal. Gifts exceed a thousand dollars, and a $5,000 bequest boosts the fund as 100+ editors and printers sign the charter.
President Truman announced $20,375,400 in loans to 108 cities to plan 134,500 dwellings in 27 states Puerto Rico and Washington DC under the Public Housing Act. Egan said loans will be signed quickly and constructions start within two years, with further funding planned for 100 more authorities.
The University of Virginia student council asked Philadelphia hotel managers to provide names and details of UVA students involved in post game vandalism after the November 5 football game. Subpoenas were prepared for cotton mill officials to appear at a House labor sub committee hearing in Atlanta on November 21 regarding the Hart Cotton mill strike in Tarboro North Carolina. The officials named are Frank Leslie New York president of the Mart mill Marcus W Carter Tarboro vice president and general manager and EF P Cave St Louis president of Ely and Walker Drygoods owner of the mill. Rep Burke Ohio signed the subpoenas yesterday for them.
