Georgia minister suspended for criticising Bishop Cannon

The Rev. Rembert G. Smith of Sparta, Georgia, was suspended for one year by a north Georgia conference ecclesiastical jury for gross imprudence and high unministerial conduct. The trial was sealed. twelve of thirteen members signed the verdict. Smith had opposed what he called political activities by Bishop Cannon and other church leaders, prompting protests from Sparta officials and congregation members.

The American freighter Arlyn, after rescuing a British rum runner off Cape Hatteras, is seized in New York on charges that officers and crew landed 14 sailors and unloaded 4000 cases of liquor, violating immigration, customs, and prohibition laws. Virginia Aviation Pioneer Killed In Richmond Crash

Wayne R. Smith 34, a Richmond aviation pioneer and bridge engineer for the state highways department, died when his self built plane crashed at the old Charles Flying field. A World War Rainbow Division veteran, he founded the city's first airplane 15 years earlier and taught model planes to youth. He is survived by his widow and three children.
