One Third Eligible For Federal Help Across Counties
Johnson City Texas AP reports that about one third of the nations 3170 counties may qualify for federal aid to boost lagging economies. A list of 1280 eligible counties spans the nation with many in Appalachia from Pennsylvania to the north. The White House says Johnson will act soon and that funding should be in full swing by year's start. The program, started in 1963, allocates 3.25 billion dollars over five years to underperforming sections.
