Wichita State defeated Utah State 21 to 19 in a tense game that ended with a free-for-all. The decisive score came when Utah State center Ken Ferguson snapped the ball over the punter into the end zone, credited as a safety. Bob Hoskins tackled Utah State’s punter Ron Stewart to seal the play.
Ole Miss defeats Tennessee 14 to 13 in a tight league clash. Tailback Keeps Spa Jo ennes drives the play, clove to threaten the goal line late, helping the Rebels hand the Vols their first loss of the season.
Stanford Calif AP Sophomore Gary Beban ran for two touchdowns passed for one and helped set up another as UCLA defeated Stanford 30-13 to move toward a Rose Bowl showdown. Beban scored on 14 and four yard runs.
