The North Carolina Rural Electrification Authority will review a petition by Lippe Bega Randolph for a loan to support a project in Asheboro. Engineering plans and cost estimates have been filed with the state authority and will be examined at the regular REA meeting.
Richard Vestal, 21, shot his wife, 17, in the upper left arm with a shotgun then turned the weapon on himself. Police say the estranged couple’s two children were in the home as Vestal’s condition remained uncertain and the investigation continued.

THOMASVILLE a teenager was killed when an auto overturned near Welcome. Paul Walser Jr. 17 Route 2 was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital Winston-Salem. One other occupant suffered minor injuries and Don Tysinger Route 1 Lexington had a minor hand cut. The 1946 model car owned by Walser's father was totaled.
Amelia Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs P A Smith was selected to represent Randolph County in the Democracy Contest sponsored by the Asheboro Junior Chamber of Commerce. Over 100 county senior high students competed. The state event will be held in Saunee en with Gray's Chapel and Wigcea School among participants.
Patrolman reports the accused Charlie Clinton Williams, of Greensboro, is alleged to have attempted bribery on a highway lane. The officer states Williams appeared ill prepared for the confrontation and gave inconsistent statements.
City police seek the operator of a hit and run vehicle that struck a parked car at 6 20 last night in front of 8255 Main St. The car reportedly belongs to John W Wright of 107 ee a ee ee ee.
