Bailey faced charges for transporting a stolen car and motor vehicle theft act violations and escaped from a North Carolina penitentiary in 1934.

Robert S. Campbell received a 20 to 25 year sentence after pleading guilty to second degree murder in Burlington for the fatal shooting of Deputy Lawrence Gowens. Prosecutors accepted the plea following testimony that Campbell suffered psychosis during a stress reaction from a drunken domestic incident involving his wife.
President Roosevelt at a press conference says cost of living should influence only minimum wage and not curb wage growth. He argues living costs must not control wages where costs are low and notes purchasing power matters. He also says he is two thirds finished with the budget.

Brig. Gen. Henry H. Denhardt, a veteran of three wars, faces slaying charges in the death of his fiancée Mrs Verna Garr Taylor. He is free on $25 000 bond and awaiting an examining trial after an inquest into the fatal shoting near La Grange. The incident occurred a week ago at a roadside ditch where Mrs Taylor was found with a heart wound and Denhardt's revolver nearby.
Coroner M A Northrop ruled Otis N Fisher a Wilmington automobile salesman dead after being found on a highway more than 60 feet from his wrecked car. The death was deemed accidental with the investigation closing.
In Raleigh on November 13 1931 Country John Pressley a 43 year old light colored Gaston county Negro died by electricity at the state prison for murder in self defense during a fight over a crap game. Ehringhaus granted seven reprieves during exhaustive review. He killed Sylvester Glover of Bessemer City in January 1935 under capital felony law prior to July 1 1985.
Darlington South Carolina police held Hew Jacobs of Bennettsville after he shot Oscar Garland during an argument at a hot dog stand near the county fair. Roland Griggs, Bennettsville hot dog stand operator, was detained, and 14 year old Jimmie Quick of Bennettsville was held as a witness. Garland, a filling station operator, is survived by a widow.
