President Quirino concedes to Ramon Magsaysay in a landslide by about 60 percent of the vote with Magsaysay set to take office January 1. Quirino steps down after six years as the U S ally and Magsaysay vows unity and a stronger anti Huk campaign.
President Eisenhower departs for a two day state trip to Ottawa with Mrs. Eisenhower and a White House entourage. He will meet Governor General Vincent Massey and Prime Minister Louis St Laurent to discuss continental defense radar expansion and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Ramon Magsaysay at 46 wins a landslide over Elpidio Quirino to lead the Philippines as a fresh faced, hands on president. A former guerrilla captain and defense secretary, he vows action over excuses and has plans to resettle Huk supporters on Mindanao.
