In Munich today fifteen former Mauthausen guards were executed at Landsberg prison for slaying more than 4600 inmates including 47 Allied airmen. Thirteen were SS men. two were inmates who betrayed prisoners. This brings total hangings to 58 in a month, despite church protests.
Metropolitan Opera star Raoul Jobin continued his performance after a stab wound to the wrist during Carmen at Syria Mosque. An 11 nation tribunal in Tokyo found former Premier Hideki Tojo and six of his 24 top leaders guilty of war crimes and sentenced them to hang. Seventeen others received prison terms including Shigemitsu seven years and Togo twenty years. The court sat over two and a half years with Sir William Webb presiding.
