Great Smoky Mountain Park Seen as Saddle Horse Haven
Asheville Nov 12 AP Major William A Welch of the Southern Appalachian Park Commission says the proposed Great Smoky Mountain National Park will be a premier tramping and saddle horse park. He predicts 4 000 to 5 000 horses will be needed for tourist demand and notes stables at Glacier Park housing 800 horses. He envisions two cross park highways but emphasizes foot or horse travel to reach remote areas, forecasting the park will attract millions annually and exceed Glacier Park in eastern visitation.
